Design and Technology at Firthmoor Primary School
The Design and Technology curriculum is structured around engaging, project‑based learning that encourages pupils to think and work like designers and technologists. Through carefully planned projects, children explore the work of significant people from the field—such as inventors, designers, engineers and innovators—helping them understand how ideas and products shape the world around them. Learning is framed through a scenario‑based design brief that provides a meaningful, real‑life context and a clear purpose for designing, making and evaluating. Pupils follow a design, make, evaluate process in which they research users’ needs, generate and develop ideas, create functional products using a range of tools and materials, and reflect critically on their outcomes, fostering creativity, problem‑solving skills and an understanding of how design and technology impact everyday life.
