THE BEST PART OF MY JOB ❤️
Yesterday was one of those days that stays with you.
I had the absolute privilege of welcoming pupils from the Northern Lights Learning Trust to Parliament, including Hart Primary School, St. Peter's Elwick C of E Primary School, Grange Primary School and St Helen's Primary School.
You could see it in their faces from the moment they arrived, curiosity, excitement, and that quiet sense of wonder. For many, it was their first time in Parliament… but they carried themselves with such confidence and pride.
After their tour, we sat down together for a Q&A. As members of their Pupil Parliament, they didn’t hold back, asking thoughtful, insightful questions about how Parliament works, what my role involves, and the issues that matter most to them.
And honestly? They were brilliant.
Moments like this remind you just how much schools do, day in and day out. Behind every confident question was the dedication of teachers, support staff, and families who nurture that curiosity and belief. It’s a real testament to the incredible work happening in classrooms across Hartlepool.
To the parents and grandparents reading this, you would have been so proud. The kindness, the confidence, the enthusiasm… it was all there.
Our young people are not just the future, they’re already showing us what’s possible. And if yesterday was anything to go by, we really are in safe hands.
Whether it’s visiting schools in Hartlepool or welcoming pupils to Parliament, my answer will always be yes. Because giving young people the chance to see, question and feel part of our democracy is one of the most important things we can do.
And days like yesterday? They’re the very best part of this job.
