BalletLORENT Visit
On Tuesday 13th February children from Y1VM, Y2TH, Y2/3 HI and Y3 SB/RH took part in workshops with a contemporary dance company from Newcastle called the BalletLORENT.
Each class took part in a work shop led by dancers from the BallentLORENT. The theme of the dance work shops was the Velveteen Rabbit, based on the book by Margery Williams, which the dance company are performing, in theatres, across the North East of England this Spring.
The children had to think about how to use their bodies to perform as different children’s toys from the book such as a soft toy rabbit and a robot. The children worked in pairs to perform the roles and think about how the toys would interact with each other whilst interrupting the music. They practised the technique of ‘mirroring’, used props within their routine and thought about how each character would feel. Each pair performed in front of their peers at the end of the workshop.
